Amrita Kumar-Ratta

Biography

Amrita Kumar-Ratta (she/her) is a researcher, educator, and storyteller with ancestral and family ties to Punjab and Haryana in India/Pakistan. She is a Human Geography PhD Candidate at the University of Toronto and is trained in anti-racist and decolonial feminist theory and praxis, critical-creative qualitative methods, and multidisciplinary spatial thinking.  Her research and practice areas include geo humanities, gender and health justice, critical politics, and South Asian diasporas. Amrita's doctoral research explores the feminist political geographies of reproductive control and justice in 'Punjabi Canada' using narrative and arts-based storytelling methods. She is also a creative writer, arts educator, anti-racism strategist, and community facilitator, and is the Founder & Creator of Shades of Brown Girl, a global storytelling community for South Asian women.
