Fiona MacDonald

Biography

Dr. Fiona MacDonald (PhD UBC) is an Associate Professor specializing in Gender Politics at the University of Northern British Columbia. Dr. MacDonald co-edited the Finding Feminisms special issue of the Canadian Journal of Political Science (June 2017) which includes her article, “Knocking Down Walls in Political Science: In Defense of an Expansionist Feminist Agenda.” Her article “Indigenous Peoples and Neoliberal ‘Privatization’ in Canada: Opportunities, Cautions and Constraints” won the 2012 John McMenemy Prize for the best article published in volume 44 of the Canadian Journal of Political Science. Her co-edited book, Turbulent Times, Transformational Opportunities? Gender and Politics Today and Tomorrow, was published with University of Toronto Press, Spring 2020. Her co-edited collection, Feministing in Political Science was published with University of Alberta Press in 2024. Most recently, she published the article, "Feminism in Becoming: Considerations on the Man Question and the Future of Feministing" in the Canadian Journal of Political Science. Her current projects focus on the politics of polarization. Her co-authored chapter, "What the Truck? Political Polarization in Canada and Beyond" is forthcoming in the Palgrave Handbook of Critical Understandings of Canada in the World. Her other publications can be found in the journals Hypatia, CitizenshipStudies, Constellations, and Canadian Public Administration.
